Director Jeffrey Bracco wrote a grant with Dr. Christina Ri to add an AR component to his production of The Glass Menagerie.
Jeff made a team of Max Sims (SCU Imaginarium Lab Director), Allie Lopiano (SCU Presents Marketing Director), videographer Jenny Walsh, dramaturg Sara Session, and myself.
I learned to use Blippar AR to make a prototype of Jeff's project. When we learned Blippar asked an expensive licensing fee, I learned to use Zappar Studios. Zappar Studios is a pro-sumer facing design platform based in ECS. I used photoshop to design UI elements like buttons and photo galleries.
I pulled 3D models from the Unity and Unreal asset stores and cleaned them up in Maya. I used Maya to model and render the 3x5 foot unicorn graphic printed above.
I used Amazon S3 to store and stream my videos. The model files were small enough to store locally.

I learned a lot. This was my first time as head project designer/developer.

I designed AR experiences for...
- One promotional postcard
- Three selfie posters
- Four lobby boards
- A playbill
- A Business Card

After the production, Dr. Christina Ri, Jeff Bracco, and myself were invited to the Technology in Education Conference (ATXpo) at the University of San Francisco. We wanted some kind of take-away for attendees so that they could contact us for future projects. Having never had a reason to make one, I pitched the idea of an AR business card. Jeff Bracco had recorded the first scene of his production with an Insta360 camera. I designed a short experience: Users heard my recorded voice give a short intro, then they entered a 360 degree photo gallery. Download the Zapper app and scan the card to try it out!
