Mothers And Sons is a play by Terrence McNally, set in 2010. It follows the conflict between a grieving mother and two married men. The mother lost her son to an AIDS related illness twenty years prior. She wrongfully (jealously, we later learn) blames her son's former lover, whose NY apartment serves as the central set.
Audience members learn a little about the AIDS crisis during the play. To really grasp the feeling of the time, I provided a pre-show AR hypertext primer.

I collaborated with San Jose director, Jeffrey Bracco, and City Lights Theater Company's Marketing Director, Rebecca Wallace. Bracco directed Mothers and Sons . Rebecca Wallace worked as a journalist during the AIDS crisis. Wallace selected eighteen moments for a timeline that spans the crisis from 1981 to 2018.
I used Zapworks Studio to augment Wallace's timeline with hypertext, images, and video.
